What is in the Catalogue?
Only some of our catalogue descriptions are currently available on the catalogue. This may be because some collections are either uncatalogued or are currently being catalogued. In addition, some of our older catalogues are typewritten and work is required before we can add these to the online catalogue. We are regularly updating our online catalogue, please keep checking back to discover more descriptions.
The following collections are currently available on the catalogue:
The City of Glasgow local authority records
A The Burgh and City of Glasgow - Privileges and Powers
B Judicial and Legal Functions of the Burgh
C Glasgow Council Proceedings
D Glasgow Corporation Departments
E Glasgow Police
F Parliamentary Trusts and Commissions Conferred on the Corporation
G Glasgow Corporation Lord Provost's Office
H Annexed burghs
Private collections (TDs)
TD1734 Records of the Scottish Women's Hospitals for Foreign Service
TD1969 Diaries of Thomas Cairns Livingstone
Some of these records have restricted access which may be due to data protection legislation, depositor conditions or the physical condition of the item itself.
We have prioritised the publication of descriptions of collections which are not currently available online. Our records of Upper Clyde Shipbuilding (UCS), Justices of the Peace (JP), Customs & Excise (CE) and the Church of Scotland (CH2, CH3 & CH16) are held under charge and superintendence of the Keeper of the Records of Scotland. Descriptions of these records are available on the National Records of Scotland online catalogue which is available at
https://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/search.aspx.
Also on the catalogue are FAQs about GCA, our collections and how to use the catalogue. Additionally, we've included a glossary of terms to help you understand the descriptions as well as Useful Links to other archives and resources which will help you to access our collections.
