About the Catalogue
This is the online catalogue of descriptions of collections held by Glasgow City Archives (GCA).
GCA is based in The Mitchell Library and is part of Glasgow Museums. It is the official archive of Glasgow City Council, its Arms-Length Organisations (ALEOs) and its predecessor authorities including Glasgow District Council, Glasgow Corporation, Glasgow Town Council and Glasgow Burgh. GCA is also home to the records of Strathclyde Regional Council and some of its predecessor authorities in the west of Scotland. These authorities include the county councils of Bute, Dumbarton, Lanark and Renfrew. These records document the functions and activities of local authorities from the 15th century to date.
GCA also collects archives of private individuals, families and estates and organisations (including but not restricted to churches, businesses, solicitors, societies, clubs and associations). These relate to Glasgow, the area of the former Strathclyde Region and, in some cases, are national collections.
